Bunion On Little Toe - Symptoms Of A Bunionette (Tailor's Bunion)

A bunion that occurs just behind the small toe is called a Tailor's bunion (Taylor's bunion) or bunionette. A bunionette is a condition that causes a painful bump on the outside of the foot. Similar to a bunion, a bunionette is usually caused by footwear being too tight and is sometimes referred to as a tailor's bunion because tailors once sat cross-legged all day with the outside edge of their feet rubbing on the ground. This produced a pressure area and callus at the bottom of the fifth toe.

Exostectomy is required to prevent damage to the structure of the nerves and tendons because exostoses usually occur near and press on these nerves and tendons. This procedure is only recommended if the pain is severe, the exostosis is pressing on an important structure, if it is easily knocked or bumped, or if it is cosmetically unappealing.

Bunion on little toe is far more common in women than in men, and it’s easy to see why. The number one cause of this disorder is wearing tight footwear (such as high heels) that squeeze the toes together. Those whose occupations require them to wear tight shoes (such as ballet dancers) are more prone to bunionettes.

The symptoms of a bunionette include pain and difficulty buying shoes that will accomodate the deformity. The swelling in the area causes a visible bump that some people find unsightly. Bunionettes can be treated non-surgically or surgically, depending on its severity.

Buy bunion sling, bunion regulator, bunion brace, bunion stretcher and bunion pad.
